During the Potato Famine 1846-1851, nearly 20% of the population of Monaghan County, Ireland emigrated to the United States. This was one of the hardest hit areas in Ireland, and our branch of the Sherry  Family is said to have come from that County. At this time the exact place of origin of our family of Sherrys within Monaghan County has not yet been identified.
Thomas Sherry/Schery of Ireland and his wife Nancy Brennan were the parents of
James Sherry born in Ireland March 1835/6, died Jordan Village, Waterford, CT March 17,1924, married about 1858, Bridget Mohan.
James Sherry came to this country about 1855. A stone cutter by trade he sought employment at the Millstone quarry in Waterord, Ct. He was employed at the Millstone quarries for fifty-five years.
Bridget Mohan, daughter of Patrick and Nancy {Collins} Mohan, born Ireland March 1837, died Jordan Village, Waterfod, CT July 15, 1925.
James and Bridget had eight children one of these was Rose Teresa Sherry born Millstone Point, Waterford, New London County,Ct  March 11, 1868, died Jordan Village, Waterford, CT December 17, 1943, married at ST. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, New London, CT, January 30, 1888 Albert John Perkins.
