From "The Day" December 12, 1911:  PERKINS At Lantern Hill, Dec. 11,
1911.  John S. Perkins in his eighty-first year.

Obit:  MANY DESCENDANTS MOURN HIS DEATH  John S. Perkins Left Large
Family to Perpetuate His Name.
Whether John S. Perkins, who died Monday at Lantern hill, left anything
in worldly goods or not, he did leave behind him a fine contribution to
American citizenship.  ..................
No less than five children, 25 grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren mourn Mr. Perkins.
Mr. Perkins was the father of six children, one of whom has died.  The
other five children are married and are parents, and to their children
ten children have been born.  Among the children who reside about here
are Mr. Perkins' sons Richard and Albert of Eastern Point, and his
daughter, Mrs. Augusta Weeks of Noank.
Richard has three sons, Albert five children and Mrs. Weeks five
children.  Mr. Perkins was 81 years old.  He had been ill for some time
previous to his death.
He was one of those fine old characters, a good husband and a model
father, industrious, persevering, honest and instilling in his children
some sterling principles.  The name of Perkins does not promise to
disappear for some generations and best of all its perpetuation is left
to people well worthy of its best traditions.
